I’m fuzzy on the date, but I think it was the summer of 1987 when I took a photography class as part of a summer day camp program. It involved film, developing solution, a dark room, and a lot of laughs. Was I bitten by the bug then? Possibly. But the venom lay dormant until 2004, when my first child was born and digital cameras were invented.
I built a photo-a-day project around daily photos of Fuller, trying to share him with family members all over the world. As I spent time looking at my so through the LCD screen and capturing his moments in megapixels, I wanted to learn more about digital photography and making good pictures (I had a crappy camera). I got a new camera, dug into the hobby and kept shooting.
In the summer of 2008 I received a Nikon D40 and 2 lenses as a gift. I started to break away from auto controls and learn how to manipulate my images with manual controls. Add in a splash of photoshop know how and I’ve been happily taking pictures ever since.
Right now, it’s a hobby. I’m gaining confidence and trying to decide if digital photography and I should be more than friends. I write a lot about photography on this blog.
