I went to the Dayton 2nd Street Market with my sister this morning. I had plenty of opportunities for some pictures, but this picture of an oddly marked van is what really caught my eye. I know it is the season for fruitcakes- I am one of them!
I found myself in a bit of a funk today. It started yesterday and seems to have continued on to today. I took a nap but still feel “off” and just wanting to hang out by myself. It isn’t really easy to do with a full house. My little sister, her husband, baby, and the inlaws (both of BIL’s parents and his grandparents) all arrive safe and sound, so the house is definitely full. And yet all I wanted to do was hang out by myself.
My cop out is hormones, since I can’t really find anything else to blame. I just hope they all even out before Christmas, so we don’t have any Grinch-like moments to ruin the fun.

At the end of a long day, we relax by the fire. I love visiting with my folks in the winter because we get to sit all cozy and nice near the fire in the evenings.

My mother has a list. I know I get my listing habit from her, but it just strikes me as funny that I come to my parents’ house and am handed a list.
When I was growing up, we would go grocery shopping with my mom and she would have to push the cart so she could “think.” She would have both hands on the shopping cart handle and her list firmly gripped between her hand and the cart. She would constantly be checking it, crossing things off, and adding things to other lists she had somewhere in her purse or pocket.
I’m not as disciplined as Moma when it comes to list making, but I know it keeps me in check and on task. It’s a nice habit to be handed down.
Today my sister Austina, my mom, and I will knock out many items on THE list so we can start relaxing and hanging out with the rest of the family when my sister and her entourage arrives some time tomorrow.
We might need some term life insurance, just to make sure we get through the holiday in one piece.

Today Damon and I took a trip to Mendelson’s Liquidation. They have so much of stuff you never knew you wanted… but since it is right in front of you, you think you might just need a naked mannequin or restaurant booth or two. There is lots of restaurant equipment, office signs, and old medical equipment available for purchase at Mendelson’s.
But the gold we found there was on floor 3.
Floor three is full of electronic wires, circuits, nuts, bolts, L.E.Ds, the guts of telephones, gigantic lighting fixtures, gears, etc. One time we visited, Damon and I spent quite some time looking for a specific bearing. Today we found parts to make some L.E.D. throwies, which are currently on the ceiling of my parent’s basement.
Mendelson’s is closing out their current location, so most everything is 30% off.
I took several pictures today, finding the masses of electronic equipment appealing and very artistic. This mess of wires is only a drop in the bucket of the fun you can wade through to find the gold.
It isn’t typical tourism for Dayton, Ohio. But a place I would recommend people go see if they are ever in the neighborhood.

Since Christmas and travel have coincided, I have been taking even more pictures. I try to digitally capture the memories in pixel format as best as I can.
Today I pick this picture, from a quick trip Damon and I took to the Gerstner & Sons showroom. It was a trip right up Damon’s alley, checking out fine craftsmanship and tool boxes. I think this picture shows how fun Damon is. And it was fun to get away for an hour to see this neat bit of Dayton history.
You can see more pictures from our visit here.

Yesterday our family flew Skybus to Columbus to start our Christmas vacation in Ohio.
We have been traveling a lot this year. Flying the friendly skies is always a treat and this trip was no different. Even though it was delayed by half an hour, it didn’t dampen the excit3ment. We all got to sit together in the same row, and it was a short flight.
Traveling to visit my parents was a great way to start our Christmas season and I am really looking forward to having the rest of our family arrive to make it even more merry.
Where will you be spending Christmas? If you are traveling, how will you get there?
