title pic Tomorrow is big

Posted by Alli on January 11, 2008

I meant to do a Weight Loss Wednesday post on Wednesday, but I forgot. So here is what I should have posted then:

I am going to my first ever Weight Watcher’s meeting on Saturday. As in tomorrow.

A friend of mine from church invited me to go with her to her meeting, about 10 minutes away. I have to admit I am a bit nervous, since I have never done this before.

Soon after I got back from my honeymoon I started Jenny Craig, which was ok, but our budget just couldn’t handle the buying of the food. Plus meeting with a counselor every week was a bit of a downer since I had to rearrange my work schedule to go. The office was too far away for it to be anything less than two hours out of my day.

I got off track doing the online WW because probably because it was online. I like the WW tools, but I need more guidance to get started. And I hope this is the guidance I am looking for.

Cross your fingers for me, I hope this makes a great change in my life.

One of my crosses to bear is the fact that my eyes are not perfect. I have been wearing corrective lenses of some sort since I was in second grade. I got contact lenses in 6th grade, but as time wore on my eyes got worse. I developed severe dry eyes and after suffering for beauty during my wedding, I swore off contacts. Now I embrace my glasses as my permanent fashion accessory.

Which is why today I made a Great Discovery: www.ZenniOptical.com. They have glasses starting at $8, in styles I wear. I don’t have an up to date prescription so I can’t run it all the way through the site, but Zenni Optical makes it very affordable to purchase glasses over the internet.

I’m putting this on my list to check out next time I need to get glasses. Or if I ever decide to go back to prescription sunglasses (I use fitovers).

College football ended on Monday night with the LSU win over OSU. In our house and SEC win is an awesome thing. But since football season is officially over, it has left a void where “entertainment” used to live. So we decided to jump on the bandwagon and start watching Dexter on DVD.

So far, we like it. I was a big fan of Profiler and Pretender and I think Dexter takes those kinds of concepts and pushes them even farther. Damon keeps commenting on Dexter’s dad and how interesting and complex his character is. I’m interested in where the sister’s role will take her. And of course Dexter is an interesting character to follow.

We finished the fourth episode tonight so now we need to head back to Blockbuster and find the next disc.

title pic Where in the world? Clue number 7

Posted by Alli on

2007 was truly a year of travel for our family. I was thrilled to be on the go and seeing lots of places, but I’m happy to be home with no travel until March.

But that doesn’t mean I have sworn off travel for good. I ache to return to a lot of the places I went when we lived in Europe. I want to show off my high school in Brunssum, The Netherlands to my husband. I want to show him the hostel in Amsterdam where I stayed with my art class. I want to take him to London, Cambridge, and Oxford to see the shops and markets I saw. We could head over to Rome and see the Colosseum and Spanish Steps. I want Damon to see more of the world than just the USA, Mexico, and the tiny village of Ramstein, Germany.

Of course, if I were to get an offer to go to a really incredible place for really cheap, I might just do it. Opportunities like that don’t just happen everyday.

Where in the worldWhich is exactly what happened to my friend, Colleen. In nine days she and her husband Jim are leaving for a trip that kind of fell in their lap. It was such an awesome offer, she and her husband canceled another trip to take advantage of this one.

Colleen isn’t spilling the beans about where she is headed. Instead she is holding a contest and people get to guess. I recommend checking out her blog for the official rules (like no making guesses in the comment sections) and prizes (which aren’t too shabby!). So far there have been 6 clues:

Clue 1
Clue 2
Clue 3
Clue 4
Clue 5
Clue 6

And here is clue number 7: The place Colleen and Jim are going is somewhere I, Alli, have been before. For the record here is my list of past travel haunts: Germany (Koln, Geilenkirchen, Aachen) , The Netherlands (Amsterdam, Maastricht, Brunssum), Belgium (Brussels, Brugge, Ghent) , England (Cambridge, London, Oxford), Northern Ireland (Belfast, Newry), Italy (Rome), Luxembourg (Luxembourg), and Spain (Barcelona).

I had the great idea to actually clean today. I cleaned my kitchen floor, did the dishwasher dance (clean, empty, fill up, clean again), and folded some laundry. But the thing that had to get done, the cleaning my house really needs, didn’t get done. I just got lazy or caught up in Fuller. Or my husband coming home early threw me off.

I think I’ll be better able to complete some tasks tomorrow since a list has finally been made. Better direction makes for completed tasks.
