Wordless Wednesday :: Raclette

Over the holidays I let my flickr stream get a bit messy and as a result I haven’t really showcased some pictures from various events. This is one of my favorite pictures from Christmas. It was the evening we had raclette (which was a substitute for our Christmas Eve tradition of fondue) and I was “shooting from the hip” with my new 35 mm lens.

I love how this came out.

I Heart Faces :: Best Face

2010 has begun and the gals at I ♥ Faces are celebrating their first birthday! I missed last week’s challenge, but really hope to participating in more I ♥ Faces challenges this year.

This week, as they get their birthday celebration going, they ask for our “Best Face Photo” taken sometime in the last month. Well, I happen to have this sweet face on my computer from last Friday:

It’s Elsie, my friend Esther’s precious living doll! She woke up from her nap and I took out my camera to get a few shots. She even smiled for me, sweet little thing.

What my camera got for Christmas (part 1)

One of the highlights of my Christmas was the gift my guys gave me. Damon knew it was something I really, really, really, really wanted and it was probably going to be obvious when he gave it to me. So, he and Fuller worked together to make the actual giving of the gift just as special.

During a trip to Wal-Mart, I got a phone call from Damon asking if my parents had any black spray paint in the house. Turns out they didn’t, so I was tasked with buying some. Then when I returned to the house, I was banned from a certain part of the basement for a period of time. (Actually, I was banned twice, for two separate reasons!)

On Christmas morning 2, I was handed a box from my guys and inside I found this:

When I turned it over, I saw this:

And after I obeyed the instructions I saw this:

Actually, what you see there is only half of the gift (the card reader). The other half is currently in my camera! It is an Eye-fi card and allows me to simultaneously take pictures and wirelessly upload them to my computer and Flickr!

It took me a while to get all the settings just right. In fact, I opened the gift on December 26th and just yesterday figured out the power settings I had to change on my camera. Now it is working very well and it is really cutting down on some of my work.

Damon is known for usually having one big “handmade” gift to give someone at Christmas. And he is also known as someone who will make some effort to wrap gifts creatively. I’m honored to have been one of the recipients of the creative Christmas spirit from my husband!

Still kicking it

Wednesday the stomach bug hit Damon. It had already been through my sons, so I guess it would seem natural to hit me as well. I guess I had blinders on because for some reason, on Wednesday, I was already looking forward to Thursday and spending a snow day with my friend Esther and her kids.

Instead I spent early Thursday throwing up and praying for more sleep. And all the while, the snow fell outside.

Tebow was in bed early, so I threw on some clothes, grabbed my camera and took a quick photo walk outside my house.

Snow is so rare in Chattanooga, even a stomach bug can’t keep me from capturing a few images of it.

I went to bed as soon as I came inside.

Wordless Wednesday

As is the case with my side of the family, Christmas get togethers mean group photos. Usually in clothing my mom picks out and buys for us. This year I was able to assist in the picking out of clothes and my sisters and I received cashmere sweaters! (I’ve wanted one for a long time.)

This isn’t the best picture from our photo shoot, but it is my favorite.

Well, I thought I would give this a try again. This is the face I make when trying to take a timed picture and hear the words, “What makes it ok to shoot a one month old puppy in the face?” Yeah, I have no words for that awfulness.

I had a picture for December 11th, but I was too exhausted after the fact that I just let posting the picture slide.

My baby kept getting his hair in his eyes. So we finally gave in and took him to get his first haircut!

And my pick for today is this fake bokeh picture:

I say it is fake bokeh because it has nothing to do with depth of field. Instead it is me putting the camera in manual and making it all out of focus. And I like the outcome!
