There and back again
When we left Chattanooga on the 26th, I had no intention of taking a break from the internet. But when we arrived at my in-law’s lake house, the internet connection was either on its own vacation or doing an excellent imitation of a sloth. There was hope it would return, but after the third day I told myself I was on vacation and if I didn’t have internet access, then it would be ok.
Yes, I said, it. If there was no internet, it would be ok.
I had plans for the internet while I was on vacation. I was going to post an entry to enter a contest. I was going to make sure I uploaded our pictures from every day. And I was going to use google maps to make sure the GPS wasn’t going to lead us astray when driving from one side of the lake to the other.
Instead I let go of the power the internet, and just chilled out. I read two books, played with the kids, took pictures, enjoyed family gatherings, went swimming, and tried to keep Tebow happy (which isn’t that hard). I did make a phone call to my mom at the beginning of the trip telling her, if she didn’t see me on the internet, don’t panic.
The biggest annoyance of no internet for a week was the enormity of my email inbox when we returned.
But, over all I lived.
And we returned to Chattanooga over a week ago.
Yes, over a week ago. Which means I have had internet access for over a week.
Turns out taking a week off of the internet can kind of be “freeing” and I wasn’t inspired to dive back into the social networking/ blogging waters right away. My vacation kind of continued, giving me a small rest. Besides, I had laundry to do, a museum visit to make, and other stuff.
I wasn’t totally off the internet. I’ve been peeking at other blogs, making quips on twitter, and even introducing my dad to facebook (it was his Father’s Day gift). And now, I’m ready to get serious and work on Some Things. I miss writing and connecting, so I hope I get a little bit of a welcome back (anyone want to make me a cake?) and encouragement to keep it up. Because I’m pretty sure vacation is over.
