Eleven years ago tonight, Damon and I were enjoying ourselves on our second date. It was a dinner and movie date, something I had actually never been on. We saw The Wedding Singer and had dinner at Big River.
Tonight, frustrated that we still have one son stubbornly remaining in utero, we asked my mom to babysit Fuller so we could go to the movies. Unlike our second date, we didn’t see a romantic comedy. Instead we saw the action thriller, Taken.
I want to point out that the second date was before I kind of flipped out and told Damon I didn’t want to date him, I was too busy finishing school, and I just didn’t think I was in a place for a relationship. And even though we got back together a few months later, I still count those early dates a part of our relationship. Because really, those first few dates were intriguing enough to keep him in part of my mind space. If it hadn’t I wouldn’t have called him all the way from Ireland to ask him to Spring Banquet, right?
In April we celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary. I’ll get gooey and emotional then. For now, I’m just glad we still enjoy going to the movies together.

She forgot to mention that Taken was Awesome! A total guy flick! Refreshingly straight-forward… and really brutal… more so than Fight Club, even.
This movie really proves the old adage: non-violence never solves anything.
All fathers should hope they grow-up to be Liam Neeson.
