Doctor Day
Posted by Alli on January 20, 2009
I need someone to figure out the equation for the space-time continuum that will explain how a visit to the doctor feels like two hours but only lasted for 45 minutes. Because really, that was my morning.
The nurse for my doctor is really sweet, calling pregnant patients back as close to their appointment time as possible, because she knows we are holding our pee in order to get it in the all important plastic cup. Which I was. So I did the deed, went back to the exam room, and the nurse did the weigh-in, blood pressure, and pleasant chit-chat. Then she told me to wait for the doctor.
I walked around the room a bit (my leg was bothering me) and read a few magazine articles. And then, after what felt like half an hour, I had to pee again. I put my shoes back on and excused myself to the bathroom down the hall.
Soon after returning to the room, the doctor came in, did the necessary medical chit-chat and then told me to undress for the exam. He left for me to do that in privacy. Which I did. And then, as I was about to get myself situated on the exam table, complete with thin paper sheet covering me, I decided I had to get dressed.
Because, I had to pee.
Again.
There was no way I was going to get through an internal check and a group B strep test AND keep my dignity.
After my third trip to the bathroom (where I almost ran down a grandmother trying to get to the bathroom), the rest of the exam went as I hoped. Everything is normal, I’m slowly progressing, and a quick ultrasound showed Baby Two with his head down (it was a concern since my last ultrasound showed him to be breech).
I’m confident this kid will stay put for a while longer, which is great for us since the carpet is getting installed on Thursday and me being the hospital (hopefully with Damon by my side!) would put a real damper on that.
Oh, and as a bonus picture:
My doctor recently changed exam rooms due to a retiring doctor in the practice. This gem of a painting was left there and it cracked me up because Melissa Wiley also got to see these ladies at her doctor’s office (in California) and as a result developed quite the relationship with her bosom buddies.
