December 6th:: Carnage of Presents
Posted by Alli on December 6, 2008
Damon and I finished our gingerbread house this morning and got it to the Creative Discovery Museum by 11 a.m.
We worked hard on it until 1:30 last night and then this morning we finished the details. The picture above is one of the details I worked on- the presents spilling out of Santa’s bag. The are made out of Lego fruit snacks, royal icing, and slivers of Twizzlers as bows. You can see all the pictures of our finished product on flickr.
We placed first in the non-traditional category, coming home with a bottle of wine, a gift certificate to Carrabba’s, and a gift certificate to the museum gift shop. It was an awesome feeling to know our hard work was rewarded. The judges saw not just the craftsmanship, but the thought we put into it, keeping our neighborhood in mind.
And another reward to making the gingerbread house was working with Damon on it. We managed to do this project together without fighting and having lots of fun. We kept it light (repeating to ourselves this was not Food Network) and just knew we were putting together an excellent project.
This might become a yearly tradition, it might not, but right now, it has made an excellent memory.
