Nesting instinct

There is a phase of pregnancy I have heard of but never really thought I ever entered- nesting.

When I was pregnant with Fuller we had to renovate his room in order for him to have one. (Sidebar: When we bought this house and agreed to live in it while renovating it, I made Damon make one promise: when we brought a baby home, the baby would have a finished room.) I helped with renovations by standing around and holding stuff. I climbed a few step ladders to help do the ceiling treatment. I did a lot of the painting (several of my maternity tops have stripes of paint on the belly where I ran into some of the paint), and picked out the curtains.

I never really thought of it like nesting because it was something we had to do.

My mom came to stay with me on a weekend when Damon went out of town and I was close to my due date. We took the opportunity to deep clean my kitchen and rearrange things so Fuller would have his own drawer. To this day, I am thankful for that weekend and Fuller’s personal kitchen drawer.

But again, I never really thought of it like nesting because it was my mom’s idea to deep clean the kitchen and my one request to get some organization for baby kitchen stuff. It had to be done.

We are still quite a ways away from when we will start reorganizing the kids’ bedroom to keep two kiddos. But right now I’m dabbling in little bits of nesting like deep cleaning corners of the house. Saturday I managed to wash both shower curtains, today I plowed through some clutter. Who know what will happen in the weeks ahead, but I think, I think my little bits of nest are starting to come together. I don’t envision needing new kitchen cabinets, but I imagine new carpet for the kids’ room.

Hooray, hooray, I won on eBay. And I’ve decided for now to keep it to myself. I can say this much. Ali assures me that it most definitely is NOT a lima bean. Which is a relief, because the first set of u/s images taken some weeks ago left doubts. Today’s apparently clear up that question entirely.

Or so they tell me. So for now, we shall assume that Not-Bean Crumley is most definitely of human origin.

Huzzah!
