Filled, not pulled
Posted by Alli on June 17, 2008
Yesterday morning I had a dentist appointment. In the saga of my deteriorating baby teeth (I had four, one was pulled, so now I have three), a hole had appeared in another baby tooth. It was just like the one I had pulled previously, so I thought I would be going in to have an extraction.
I was not relishing this because it is very painful and would probably have put me out of commission for the rest of the day. The dentist took a looksie and said he would just have to fill it. Angels were looking out for me, I know.
The small detail of the appointment I want to bring to light is how freaking cold it was in the office. I was wearing shorts and a short sleeved shirt, but somehow I thought I would be more comfortable in a snow parka. I tried shoving my hands in my pockets to circulate some warmth, but it never came.
I was left in the dentist chair for about 20 minutes while my mouth was getting numb and all I could do was shiver and wonder if I turned my cell phone off. I had on some mule-type shoes and I kept wondering if my shivering would shake them off my feet at the end of the chair.
When the dentist finally started drilling away and doing his thing, my mind turned to deep breathing exercises and finding my happy place. Suddenly I forgot the cold and was just waiting until the dentist released me from his dental torture devices.
I go back for regular teeth cleaning next month (I’m a bit overdue), so let’s hope the other baby teeth keep me out of the dentist chair a while longer.

Did you ever think that maybe they keep it extra cold to cut down on how much Novocaine they need. If you’re a Popsicle, you don’t need as much to get numb because you’re already there!
I went for several years without a cleaning while we were moving between houses (yeah, I hate dentists and it was a good excuse). I managed to get a free Sonicare from a BzzAgent campaign and when I finally went in for a cleaning, they told me it looked like I was on a regular schedule. Hooray for my free Sonicare! Unfortunately, on this most recent visit, they had to replace fillings that were 20+ year old. Oh well.
Glad it turned out okay for you!

Man Nicole, you are so right. I was a popsicle by the time the dentist got to work. It must be part of their plan or something.
Thanks for stopping by!
