Online Craft Club: Cape and T-shirt
This entry was in progress last Friday, but I didn’t finish it before we left for the Georgia Dome. I thought I would have time to finish it before midnight. Silly me. Silly tornado.
Finally, as I hoped, I have something to share for the online craft club. The kicker is, I actually have two things to share!
Thing One: a Super Hero Cape
We were invited to a 4 year olds birthday party and I woke up that morning and said, “I want to make Oliver a Super Hero Cape!” Don’t ask me why, I just did. I went out that morning, bought 1 yard of fabric and had it finished by 2:30 that afternoon. The party started at 3. From what I understand, Oliver loves his cape.
I got the pattern from the Sewing Mamas forum, which helped me some. I improvised some stuff, but the overall concept of cape really came through. It is pretty obvious a novice sewer made it, but as a gift for a 4 year old, I think it is fine.
Thing Two: Reconstructing the T-Shirt
As I mentioned last week, I was inspired by Threadbanger to actually put my 99 Ways to Cut, Sew, Trim, and Tie Your T-Shirt into Something Special book into use. I poured over the book for quiet some time, and had a few ideas to mimic. But when it came down to actually cutting up the t-shirt, I was very nervous. Then the night before we left for Atlanta, I was looking at my wardrobe for our trip and knew none of the Auburn shirts I had would make me happy. So, out came the scissors and this XXL shirt was made into something a bit more form fitting.
I’m not sure how crafty I plan on being in the next few weeks. But, I’m thrilled I was able to get these done.
If you have a craft to share (in progress or finished object) then please post it on your blog an then leave a comment at Cass Knit’s so we can all see it!
