Best Shot Monday: Shy and postprocessed

Carefree and shy We had a really warm day earlier last week, so we had to take advantage of it by going to the neighborhood playground. Of course I took my camera!

When I took this picture of Fuller he slid down the slide with such a shyness that isn’t really like him. He looked happy and just enjoying playing by himself so much, but not really wanting attention.

Carefree and shyIt really isn’t my best shot, but I loved the composition and look of Fuller. So I experimented with post processing in picnik and gave it this holgaish look and then the cinemascope gave it the crop. Now it isn’t my best shot, but really my favorite shot.

I’m not sure where folks stand on post processing of digital photography. I know Ree does it on her beautiful shots on Pioneer Woman, but rarely do folks fess up that they photoshopped their picture. I used photoshop too, but am still getting my feet wet there.

Where do you stand on SOOC (straight out of the camera) versus post processed digital photography?

picnik is a ton of fun! the effects like holga can add a whole new dimension to a photo. i love what you did.

I think post processing brings out the artist — I think that second one is my favorite too.

I never photoshop my pics on digicass. I don’t even crop them. Hmm, I’m rethinking that position. Seriously.

I love that picture!!!! I photoshop some of mine, but usually they are SOOC.

I should mention here that usually when you see a picture in my flickr photostream, it is a SOOC shot. I might use picnik for quick red eye removal, but that is it. It is only recently that I have started to go in and really experiment with post processing.

I think there’s a time for SOOC and for processing. That’s the beauty in the digital world!

    I love the processed image!

if I’ve got time and the shot is worth it, I’ll usually do auto-levels or auto-contrast, since our camera tends to make things a little gray.

I love how you played with that! I am going to have to get more creative if I’m gonna play BSM with the likes of you! Nice job!

I love what you did with it. I don’t mind altered photos, but I always like to know what is SOOC vs edited or enhanced.

I love your processed image. I agree with Susie.

A fantastic shot! Love the processing you did. AND YES, I photoshop almost every photo. At least to improve the levels, contrast, color.

Confession: I use PSE all the time…ALL the time.

I’m all for the processed one. I love what you’ve done with it.

i think the processing adds so much. sometimes sooc is okay when the pics come out but the processing can be so beautiful…

I am a Photoshop (Elements) addict! All my pictures are at least a little bit touched up. I used to feel like it’s cheating, but now I feel like it’s part of the artistry. You really made that sweet shot into something special.

What a great shot of him on the slide — he is so handsome!

My shots are SOOC, unless I convert them to black and white from the color shot. It isn’t because I don’t want to photoshop them (I so desperately want to!), it’s just that I am not very good at it. I need to practice and try to figure it all out…

I definitely do post processing on most of my shots–it’s obvious, but that’s part of where the art comes from, you know? I mean, the greats pretty much all considered the work they did in the darkroom an integral part of being a photographer, so we’re just continuing with that tradition, digitally.

Oh, and love love your shot. Especially the processed one :)
