Over thinking and looking for advice
Posted by Alli on January 4, 2008
Today was supposed to be a day of rest but I ended up doing a bunch of laundry. I unpacked all suitcases and spread out a bunch of presents throughout the house, asking them to each find a place for themselves because heck if I know where they will fit.
I had promised myself to stay in my pajamas all day and I did- until about 6 p.m. when I showered and put on clean clothes.
When Fuller went down for his nap I had plans to straighten up the living room, fold and put away clothes, and probably even roomba one room. Instead I spent almost three hours drooling over DSLRs and lenses for the pretty, pretty cameras.
I’ve had conversations with several people who already own DSLRs and honestly I am feeling overwhelmed. I don’t want to spend a lot of money on something too much for me to handle. And I’m a little scared of the lens aspect of it, again because it costs money and I don’t want to spend money on the wrong thing. I will probably be spending around 800, if just to get the camera and a kit lens (and yes, I have been warned the kit lenses are usually junk).
Overthinking big purchases is a downfall of mine, so today I decided I’ll stick with the Canon Digital Rebel XTi and keep looking at lenses. I still have about a month before I can buy it, so I have plenty of time to learn and over think even more. (And I reserve the right to switch the Nikon D40x if the mood strikes.)
If you have a Canon EOS DSLR (or just a DSLR), let me know what lens you think I should get. I’m soaking up advice for about it another month!
Adding a link for small business phone systems will help me earn the money I need for this new camera.

Hey, sorry if my earlier advice fueled your overthinking. I’m the same way. You should see the process we go through to buy…well, just about anything major in our household. When I make a quick decision on something (like the sofas we recently bought) it makes Pam very, very nervous…b/c it’s not like me.
If you’re budgeting $800 and buying the body only on the XTi, then this lens may be a really good choice. It’s got a nice focal length and IS (image stabilization). $400 from B&H (maybe cheaper if you shop around).
