Arriving at the lake for our Thanksgiving adventure was a bit non-adventurous. Fuller slept, then woke up, then he watched a movie. We got here in one piece.
I feel like D and I have been acting like the activities directors on a cruise ship- keeping the kids occupied or moving so they don’t stop and ask to watch TV or play computer games. Not that we don’t think those activities have a place, but we would like them to realize there is more to going to Grandma and Grandpa’s house than TV and computers. They can do all that at home!
Our first adventure was a golf cart ride to the medivac helicopter landing. Just getting the golf cart moving was an adventure. We had Nick in the driver’s seat, but I was standing to the side with my foot on the gas. Damon and his mom were at the back, pushing. Vivian and Fuller were standing to the side, out of the way.
Once we moved it, we had to get it going and keep it going. The motor wasn’t warm, so it kept stalling out. Vivian asked once, “Why are we doing this?” I had to laugh.
We got to the landing pad and there are lots of trees to find treasures. We hunted for pinecones, leaves, and acorns. Found the first two, but oddly the acorns were missing.
Later we read them the Thanksgiving story and make hand print turkeys for a little something tomorrow.
In the afternoon we all rested. Tonight it is the firepit and games.
I hope we can keep this momentum going. And still get a little more rest ourselves.
