title pic Momma’s got a brand new bag

Posted by Alli on November 15, 2007

When I was getting ready for Las Vegas I had a realization: I had no laptop bag. It was a conference on blogging and leaving the laptop at home was not an option. I had a laptop bag when I worked, but my bigger laptop would not fit. I also had a hand-me-down bag from my husband, but it was a bit sorry looking and covered in dog hair.

I wanted a new bag. And I didn’t want it to look like a laptop bag.

They do exist. I needed a bag to protect my laptop, carry my camera, and all the other purse-y stuff I carry around. I searched for days- all online. I finally settled on a sweet Dakine bag purchased through ebags (and going through ebates). It had a beautiful fall plaid pattern and looked sophisticated enough to carry as a purse, even when my laptop wasn’t in it.

I ordered the bag on a Thursday. That Sunday I was trying to pull it up on ebags to show my sister the sweet bag that would be mine, all mine. And I couldn’t find it. Strange much?

My sister suggested it was no longer available, so I smiled smugly that I got mine just in time.

And then Monday came. And I checked my email. And there was a lovely notice from ebags that their supplier no longer had that available, so could I go and order another bag?

I was so pissed. But I started my trek toward online browsing again. The bag had to fit a laptop and my camera, my other purse stuff, and not look like a laptop bag. Oh, and be under $50.

I spent another day looking and ignoring my household duties. I complained loudly to Fuller (like he cares) and then on a message board. And it was if I had prayed a prayer for healing and it was the will of God.

My friend Julie has a husband. My friend Julie has a husband who works for Zappos. Zappos sells bags. Julie’s husband has access to 20% off coupons. I was offered one such precious item and whee- I was off to the site to check out their bags.

Wait- did you know Zappos sold bags? Or did you think they only sell shoes? The sell shoes, bags, clothing, and accessories. Zappos exists for the whole exterior of the person. One of the fun things about Zappos is if you put something in your shopping cart, it means they have it available to be shipped to you. No waiting three days to find out it isn’t available. And as a bonus, if you order it before 1 p.m., it will be on your doorstep the very next day.

Me, Eric, and my bag from Zappos!Am I the last person to jump on the Zappos bandwagon? Am I the last person to sing the praises of the purple store with the customer service of an angel? Did you see this on 60 minutes?

At the advice of Julie, I checked out the Zappos bag section and guess what I found. The exact same bag that ebags no longer had in stock. And I was able to put it in my shopping cart, used my 20% off coupon, and I got it the very next day. So awesome.

I heart Zappos (I pink puffy heart Zappos) and I heart my new bag. I was so excited about my Zappos story that in Las Vegas I marched up to Eric in the Zappos booth and told him how awesome they are. And then he emailed me a new 20% off coupon. I have some shopping to do.
