Weightloss Wednesday: Onslaught
Posted by Alli on October 3, 2007
I am not really following my points or the scale right now. All the recent travel and duldrums have done me in. Also, changes in the Blockbuster All Access account have kept me from walking as often and now I need another motivation to get me to walk more. Since we are headed out of town tomorrow (complete with birthday cake and ice cream) I plan on getting back on that horse next week.
But this morning I saw something I want to share and discuss. First, check this out:
What this Dove Film shows me is just how much of a bombardment the media can be to any young mind. Or a mind of 30, almost 31 years. Since we upped our cable package, I notice even more the hold the entertainment industry is trying to take. More infomercials and make over shows want to give us the solutions they want us to need to conform to someone else’s idea of beauty.
I was recently reading over Tim’s Take from Season 3 of Project Runway and he called a size 6 model “Plus Sized” and that sent me reeling. He explained that it was in the runway model world that the model was considered Plus sized and since I don’t exist in that kind of reality I just dismissed it. But today I realized I do exist in that reality because I see those ads and tv shows.
Back to weightloss Wednesday- I have to be happy with myself and who I am as a person. No matter how many pounds I lose, it isn’t the key to happiness. I applaud Dove and their Real Beauty campaign. This short film has really shown me I can’t and shouldn’t try to live up to someone else’s idea of beauty.
I am beauty and being happy with myself makes me even prettier.

oh my gosh, yes! in one of my magazines i read that on TOP MODEL…their plus size model is between an 8 and a 10…it’s unfair of them to project those sizes on us like that!!!
but you know what…healthy is what i’m working towards now, and that feels pretty darn good
