Online Craft Club: To Go Bag
Last week I missed the second edition of Show and Tell for the Online Craft Club. But it was a conscious decision to skip it until this week. Too much to do to get ready for Florida.
But! Today I am ready to show off my very own creation: Fuller’s To Go Bag. (The link goes to the whole Flickr set.)
I wanted Fuller to have a nicer backpack for our trip and I wanted it to have a “go” theme since he uses it only when we are going somewhere- the store or a trip. I spent one of his nap times sitting down with a pencil and paper drawing and writing out step by step exactly what I had to do to make it work.
All that planning paid off and I was able to complete the bag to my liking. It uses denim on the outside and a travel themed fabric for the lining. I included an easy access pouch for tissues/crayons/ and hand sanitizer. I put in a zippered pocket for his pull-ups and wipes. I also included piping as a finishing touch, something I am very proud of.
Upon actual use, it seems to need some improvements. The straps don’t stay on his shoulders very well and the flap for his tissues/ crayons/ hand sanitizer needs a little help. (It also wasn’t cool when the big button on the front popped off in the Atlanta airport.)
But I am proud to complete this project and have it used by my favorite son. After completing the bag, I want to pass along one tip Damon gave me. When you want to use back straps for a bag, it is cheaper and easier to buy an old bag at a thrift store and just take the straps off. I got my straps for about 20 cents that way.
If you have a show and tell project for the craft club, go ahead and post it, then head over to today’s Online Craft Club and leave your link in the comments!

What a great little bag! I’ve been looking to buy a little backpack for Connor for just this purpose, but haven’t been able to find a suitable one. Maybe I’ll just make it like yours!

That’s adorable. I would have loved something like that when my boys were younger.
