Flying to Florida

This Friday our family is flying to Florida to visit my little sister, her husband, and their new baby (my new niece!). It is so strange to me that my baby sister had a baby! But there is photographic evidence, gushing grandmothers, and plane tickets… so we are set to head down on Friday.
The trip will be a mini family reunion as well. It will be just my parents, sisters, BIL, and new niece, but it will be great just being the small group for a few days. And it is a good vacation for us since my husband and I will be taking a night to head to Orlando for some fun.
Growing up we didn’t have regular vacations. I find this odd since my dad grew up going to the Outer Banks every summer. We had a big family reunion with Daddy’s side of the family when I was in 8th grade. We went to Ocracoke Island, which is where Daddy’s family went every summer. When we were there we had to deal with Hurricane Bob, which wasn’t too bad for our island.
It is odd that Daddy didn’t insist on carrying this tradition on with his family. But now we just take what we can get in terms of getting together. On my husband’s side of the family we still carry on their lake house tradition every 4th of July. Of course, it helps that Damon’s parents own their lake house.
I think I have a busy week ahead of me getting ready for Florida. But I am excited to get to go!
