title pic Achieving harmony in my environment

Posted by Alli on June 2, 2007

I haven’t studied Feng Shui or ever applied any of its principles to my life, but I think I understand what it means when your Feng Shui is out of whack. According to Wikipedia, Feng Shui is:

ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with the environment.

I haven’t had much harmony in my environment lately. Our washing machine was broken and since it was on the bottom of the washer/ dryer stack, the dryer had to come down and block one of the pathways in our kitchen.

My lovely husband fixed the washing machine last Saturday but the dryer didn’t go back on top until Thursday evening. During those four days I was definitely out of whack. I couldn’t work in my kitchen, had no desire to clean or cook in there because this big metal box was blocking the way. Add to that all the tools and parts laying about the room and it was a nightmare. I wasn’t comfortable in there. In short, I had no harmony with my environment.

It makes a big difference to feel ok in your own home. And while our home is still a work in progress, this one small (but heavy) thing has made me feel ok again. When we moved the dryer back into place, it seemed to click. Suddenly I could breathe again, and if I wanted to I could actually clean the whole kitchen, not just a corner of the kitchen island.
